Local synchronised swimmers revive Sydenham pool with vital chlorine donation

A generous chemical donation from Team Phoenix has transformed the Sydenham swimming pool from murky green to sparkling blue, restoring a cherished community space.

The Sydenham swimming pool has been given a new lease on life after a timely donation of essential chemicals from the local synchronised swimming team, Team Phoenix. What was once a green and unusable pool is now clean, blue and safe for residents, thanks to the swift action of the team and their coaches, Dave and Vicky Drinkwater.

Several municipal swimming pools across Johannesburg have been affected by temporary service disruptions due to chemical supply constraints.

These chemicals are essential for maintaining safe water quality and ensuring public health. While the City of Johannesburg continues to manage limited stock and prioritise high-demand facilities, Team Phoenix stepped in to support their local pool and the surrounding community.

The donation has enabled the Sydenham swimming pool to resume normal operations, allowing swimmers to return to the water and local clubs to continue training. Pool users have welcomed the change, expressing relief and excitement at being able to use the facility once again.

Team Phoenix’s donation reflects the club’s ongoing commitment to community upliftment and development. The team regularly supports local initiatives and offers opportunities for young swimmers to be introduced to artistic swimming, helping to grow the sport while ensuring access to safe and functional training spaces.

The transformation of the pool serves as a reminder of the positive impact that local action and generosity can have, particularly during challenging times.

Through their donation, Team Phoenix has not only restored a vital community facility but also ensured that residents can once again enjoy a clean, safe and welcoming swimming environment.
