Deutsche Schule Johannesburg learner shows off entrepreneurial skills
Rebecca Klass believes fashion is an expression of a person’s individuality.
Deutsche Schule Johannesburg learners’ entrepreneurial spirit shone at the school’s fashion show on September 2 and 3.
DSJ public relations manager Savo Ceprnich said this year’s fashion show provided a platform for young entrepreneurs to showcase their businesses.
“The opening scene featured clothes from Grade 10D’s Rebecca Klass who started her thrifting business Nearly New during the lockdown. Rebecca not only supplied the clothing for the show’s biggest scene but also styled the models and ran her pop-up store at the event’s Night Market.”

Rebecca said her business idea came about from wanting to get rid of old clothes.

“My mother suggested that I sell my old clothes and buy new ones that fit my style. Later, I started doing pop-up thrift markets and recently started my social media page.”
Rebecca said styling the school’s fashion show models was an amazing experience.
“I styled them to fit their sense of style and personality and also put my best and brightest clothes on the runway. I felt such a sense of achievement to see my logo on the big screen and see models wearing my clothes while people were cheering.”

The budding entrepreneur advised aspiring entrepreneurs to follow their passion.
“Always follow your heart and your dreams and never give up on things that may seem impossible because you never truly know what you’re capable of until you try.”
