Certificates and courses empower youth for prospective employment

Head of communications and marketing of Ort SA, Jeanette Smith said the event was held on August 31.
The youth, who are also beneficiaries of the Youth Employment Services programme, received certificates at the event for completing an eight-week information technology (IT) bridging course programme sponsored by Energy Mobility Education Trust in KwaZulu-Natal.
The programme included Cisco IT Essentials which covers fundamental computer skills for entry-level IT jobs, Microsoft fundamentals, the ready-to-work course, and an introduction to coding.
CEO of the Energy Mobility Education Trust, Vuyo Mwase addressed the youth and said, “We have such a desperate shortage and need for skills, especially the kind that you have been taught, information and communication technology, digital and more. We must ensure that you are prepared for the future world of work and jobs that don’t even exist yet.”

Each of the 50 participants received two certificates, the Cisco IT Essentials certificate, and the Microsoft Fundamentals certificate.
The target number of beneficiaries for this year is 100 unemployed youth with the remaining 50 beneficiaries on track to receive their certificates towards the end of the year.
