These are the routes affected by the DA’s Power to the People march

The march will start at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown and proceed along Lillian Ngoyi Street on Wednesday, January 25.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has planned a Power to the People march in light of the electricity woes that have affected some South African residents and businesses heavily.

In an invitation letter directed to South Africans, the DA said they are hosting a major protest against load shedding and unaffordable electricity price increases at Luthuli House on Wednesday, January 25 at 09:30.

“We have chosen Luthuli House for a very good reason. Through its corrupt policy of cadre deployment,
the ANC has seized the decision-making powers that should rightfully belong to the state, unlawfully
centralising these powers in the ANC. It is at Luthuli House where, over the past 25 years, decisions
were made to “deploy” the corrupt and incompetent ANC cadres who plundered and destroyed Eskom,” the party said.

The party further stated, “South Africa has reached a tipping point in an electricity crisis that has plagued our country for over 15 years. The people of South Africa have heard our call to take to the streets to demand better from our government, but ultimately, South Africans are coming to the realisation that the only way to fix this
mess is to remove the ANC and its system of state control from power”.
