St Teressa’s School learner puts her best foot forward at the Commonwealth Judo Championships

Jordyn Holmes came in third place at the Commonwealth Judo Championships.

St Teressa’s School learner, Jordyn Holmes earned a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Judo Championships in Gqeberha.

Holmes said, “The experience was truly extraordinary, from the team accommodation to the event set-up and warm-up rooms. I pushed very hard and made it onto the podium in third place, receiving a bronze medal.”

Judo is a sport of unarmed combat derived from ju-jitsu and intended to train the body and mind. It involves using holds and leverage to unbalance the opponent.

She said she trained at the Hajime Judo Club in Bryanston and practised twice a week, on Monday and Wednesday evenings. “During huge competitions, we train up to four times a week and on Sundays.”

Holmes concluded on the more difficult days when she felt unmotivated, she turned to her mother or brother because they always gave her the best advice and helped her find the motivation to push harder than before.
