Orange Grove residents help Norwood police
Orange Grove residents helped apprehend a suspect who had robbed a victim of her cellphone.

The community of Orange Grove assisted the police in apprehending a suspect for a common robbery.
Norwood police spokesperson Warrant Officer Eric Masotsha said on August 11 at about 18:00, the victim was walking along 7th Street when she was approached by four men who demanded her cellphone. Masotsha added after being robbed, the victim was told not to look back at the perpetrators.
“When she got home she explained to her partner how she was robbed of her cellphone and gave a description of the suspect who took her phone to her husband,” he said.
“They then went to a nearby tavern and found the suspect. Immediately when he saw the victim, he ran away. She screamed for help and the community responded and caught the suspect.”
Masotsha said a cellphone was found in the suspect’s possession. The police were called and the suspect was arrested.
“The Norwood police would like to thank the community members who did not take the law into their own hands.”
Station Commander Colonel Logan Govender and his management team commended the Orange Grove community.
Masotsha said the suspect appeared in court on August 14 and was denied bail.
