Suspect has been staying on Killarney M1 highway for 15 years
One suspect is at the Norwood Police Station holding cells after being arrested during an operation on the M1 highway in Killarney.
One suspect is at the Norwood holding cells after being arrested during a joint operation. The joint operation between Vision Tactical members, Norwood SAPS and the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) took place on August 25.

Norwood police spokesperson Warrant Officer Eric Masotsha said an informer had let them know that people were staying on the M1 Freeway in Killarney in a squatter camp. “We found one guy in possession of dagga, more than 100 damaged cell phones, clocking device belonging to Vision Tactical that had been reported stolen two years ago. We also found bank cards and jewellery,” said Masotsha.
He added that the suspect who is from Tanzania, said he had been staying at the squatter camp for 15 years.

“We destroyed the camp and cleaned up. The suspect was arrested for possession of stolen property. He went to court on August 28 and was denied bail. The man requires an interpreter due to language barriers,” said Masotsha.
Vision Tactical also posted on its Facebook page and stated that by maximizing its resources and collaborating, it focused on targeting the open spaces within its vicinity, ensuring that the community remains secure. “Our shared goal of providing a safe environment for everyone has been at the forefront of this operation. We understand the concerns raised by our fellow residents regarding the presence of squatters causing disruptions in this area. Therefore, we took immediate action to address this issue and ensure the safety and security of our community,” Vision Tactical said.

They added that the joint operation efforts not only ensured a safer environment but also shed light on some unsettling discoveries.
Vision Tactical added that during the operation, the teams’ swift action and determination in uncovering such suspicious possessions were truly commendable, and it highlights the importance of collaboration and vigilance in maintaining public safety.

The JMPD were contacted for comment on August 31 and the spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla said he would revert after checking with their units.
