Businesses in Rosebank encouraged to empower others
The Sweethearts Foundation and the Star Foundation in Rosebank have joined forces to empower mobility and change lives.
In a heartwarming union of compassion and determination, two organisations —The Sweethearts Foundation and The Star Foundation—are lighting the way for change. With their shared mission of uplifting lives and making a tangible impact, they are calling upon businesses in the Rosebank area to follow their lead.
The Sweethearts Foundation: Spreading the Gift of Movement
Since its inception on Valentine’s Day in 2013, The Sweethearts Foundation has gifted 498 wheelchairs to individuals across the nation. This 100% non-profit, community-driven organisation is powered by volunteers who are named ‘Sweethearts’. From everyday individuals to high-ranking members, these volunteers dedicate their time to transforming lives.
Believing in a more earth-friendly environment and recognising the significance of a wheelchair as a basic human right, The Sweethearts Foundation is committed to ensuring that everyone in need has access to a wheelchair. Their remarkable impact is driven by the collection of bread tags and plastic bottle tops from individuals, schools, and organizations across the country. These collections are recycled by local recycling companies, and the funds are channelled into crafting wheelchairs for beneficiaries at the top of the waiting list.
Each beneficiary’s needs are unique, sometimes requiring specialized wheelchairs. A standard wheelchair is funded through 1 750 kg of bottle tops or 350 kg of bread tags. The Sweethearts Foundation collaborates with occupational therapists to determine the best-suited wheelchair for each individual. With a benchmark of 450 kg or 50 kg, Sweethearts aim high to contribute toward a transformative cause.
Star Foundation: The Spirit of Ubuntu in Action
The Star Foundation, nestled in the heart of Rosebank within The Conservatory Building, embodies the spirit of ubuntu by giving back to South African communities. The Star Foundation is dedicated to providing general relief and development to underprivileged communities in South Africa. We focus on various areas such as education, healthcare, well-being, nutrition, gender equality, sustainability and disaster relief.
This synergy between The Sweethearts Foundation and The Star Foundation is a beacon of hope. The Conservatory Building now hosts a Sweethearts display, inviting employees to contribute by dropping off bottle tops and bread tags.
Championing change together
These foundations are encouraging businesses around Rosebank to heed the call of compassion and action. By participating in the collection of #TopsandTags, businesses can contribute to the transformation of lives.
