Restaurant in Melrose Arch calls police on non-paying patron
Friends left the bill with one customer after eating at a restaurant in Melrose Arch and the restaurant called the police after no payment was made.
One customer thought he could eat, not pay and get away with it, well not at a restaurant in Melrose Arch.
According to Norwood police spokesperson Warrant Officer Eric Masotsha, the men in blue were called in after a customer did not pay his food bill.
The incident took place on September 16 at about 15:00. “ The suspect was having fun with his friends, busy placing orders from one drink to another not knowing his account was empty,” said Masotsha.
“Then after eating, the first person to leave the premises was his accomplice… when he was about to leave without paying the bill, he was stopped by a waiter telling him his bill was still outstanding and he couldn’t leave without settlement.”
The customer asked the waiter to give him a swipe machine. However, after trying several times to swipe his card, the transactions were declined. The customer had eaten food and drank wine to the value of R2 580 and the manager had no choice but to call the police.
The suspect was arrested and charged with bilking and he will appear in court in due course.
