The women being honoured were Dr Brigalia Bam, advocate Mojanku Gumbi and advocate Winifred Karagwa Byanyima.

IWFSA’s president, Irene Charnley highlighted the forum’s vision, “Our driving vision at IWFSA is to be the voice of women leaders who bring change, but we are all aware that we would not bring change if all we did was to make our voices heard. If we want to see lasting change, we need to take our talk for a walk and stride purposefully with our heads held high in one direction which is forward with the campaign of equal representation of women.”

Charnley added that paying it forward as a theme meant performing acts of kindness towards others in hopes that those people would do something kind for the next person without any expectations.

“Being recognised by this forum symbolises the triumph of African women. I have received many accolades but this one is quite special to me because it is about what has meant the most to me in my life which is the struggle for the equality of people.”

Karagwa Byanyima added that she defines herself as a feminist, pan-Africanist, a socialist, and the movement activists have built in Africa for pan-Africanism, feminism, and socialism where a just society and where everyone can live a good life was inspired by South African women.
