St Teresa’s High School transformed into a lively hub of excitement as the Grade 10 learners hosted their annual Night Market fundraiser.

The event, organised as a fundraiser for the 2025 matric dance, was a dazzling showcase of creativity, community spirit, and learner initiative.

With more than 40 vendors offering a diverse range of products, the market was a bustling hub of excitement. Local entrepreneurs mingled with eager shoppers, while some of the school’s very own learners, Megan Bradford and Lia Zenetti, proudly displayed their handmade crochet items. “We run a crochet club at school where we learn different techniques and stitches,” said Megan. “It’s incredibly rewarding to create something with your own hands.” Lia added, “It’s been a wonderful way to bond with other girls while learning a relaxing and creative skill.”
Beyond the vibrant stalls, younger attendees were treated to a dedicated Kids Zone, complete with activities such as bunny painting, biscuit and cupcake decorating, and bracelet-making. “It’s been amazing to see the little Rosies so engaged,” said Elle Ollivier. But the true highlight for the older children – and the brave – was the haunted house.

Designed and built by the Grade 10 learners, the haunted house featured a spine-chilling theme: A Party Gone Wrong, where guests encountered a zombie apocalypse.
“We started planning early in the year,” said Lucy Simmonds, the Grade 10 head talking about organising the market. “Everyone was divided into committees, from entertainment to décor. We learned valuable skills, from budgeting to liaising with the finance department, and took ownership of the event.”
For Bjorn Oaker and Jessica Botha, Grade 11 learners eagerly awaiting their matric dance, the Night Market was the perfect way to kick off fundraising efforts. “Everything is so beautifully decorated and exciting,” they said. “We can’t wait for our matric dance – this event has set the bar high.”
The evening was a resounding success, with families and learners alike enjoying the festivities, all while supporting a good cause. As the 2025 matric dance fund begins to grow, St Teresa’s can proudly reflect on an event that brought the school community together in the spirit of hard work, fun, and, of course, a touch of spooky flair.
