Man fatally shot on Norfolk Avenue, Craighall, drive-by attack
Police are appealing to anyone with information about the fatal drive-by shooting to come forward and assist the investigation.
A 52-year-old man was tragically killed in a brazen daylight drive-by shooting on Norfolk Avenue in Craighall on December 4. The incident has left the local community shaken, raising concerns over escalating violent crime in the area.
According to police, the attack occurred around 13:30, as the victim was walking toward his vehicle. A white Mercedes-Benz AMG, reportedly without number plates, sped by, and gunfire erupted. The assailants, whose identities remain unknown, fled the scene immediately after the attack.

Eyewitnesses describe a chaotic scene, with bystanders diving for cover as shots rang out. Emergency services arrived promptly, but the victim was declared dead on the scene.
The motive for the shooting is unclear at this stage, with investigators considering multiple possibilities, including a targeted hit or a robbery gone wrong. Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, spokesperson for the Gauteng police, has assured the public that every effort is being made to apprehend those responsible.
“This is a senseless act of violence, and we urge anyone with information to come forward,” said Nevhuhulwi. “No detail is too small to assist in solving this case.”

The police have appealed to the public to report any leads via the Crime Stop Line at 08600 10111 or anonymously through the MySAPS app.
Residents of Craighall have expressed their outrage and fear following the incident. “This is a quiet, close-knit suburb. To have something like this happen in broad daylight is deeply unsettling,” said a resident who wished to remain anonymous.
As the investigation continues, authorities have increased patrols in the area, reassuring the community of their commitment to safety. However, the tragic loss of life underscores the urgent need for enhanced crime prevention measures across Johannesburg’s suburbs.
