The South African Weather Service issues a Level 5 thunderstorm warning

Flooding, traffic disruptions and structure damage may occur.

CAP Security warns Linksfield and Senderwood communities of level 5 thunderstorms from today to January 8.

The CAP Security communications team reiterated that the South African Weather Service issued Johannesburg a Level 5 severe thunderstorm warning.

“Adverse weather conditions, including heavy rain, damaging winds, hail, and excessive lightning, are expected during this period. Please have a look at the attached notice for your convenience,” said a statement from the security company.

Key impacts to note:

  • Flooding: Roads, low-lying areas, and settlements are at risk.
  • Traffic disruptions: Major roads may experience closures or delays due to flooding.
  • Structure damage: Mud-based or makeshift structures may face damage from mudslides, rockfalls, and soil erosion.
