Phase 2 of upgrade to Rosebank’s public transport facility in full swing
The upgrade will assist those using Rosebank’s public transport, which serves as a critical transport hub in the precinct.
Rosebank Precinct will soon get a transport upgrade, confirmed by the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) through a media release on June 18.
“JDA, on behalf of the City of Johannesburg’s Transport Department, has commenced preparatory work for phase 2 of the Rosebank public transport facility upgrade,” confirmed JDA’s CEO Themba Mathibe.

Located on Cradock Avenue, with access from Biermann and Jelicoe avenues, the facility serves as a critical transport hub in the rapidly expanding Rosebank precinct. “This upgrade will improve the daily experience of commuters, as well as enhance support for inclusive economic activity through better facilities for informal traders. The JDA remains committed to working with all stakeholders to deliver a resilient, accessible, and future-ready transport node.”
With increasing development in the area, the existing facility has struggled to meet rising commuter demand.

To address this, the project has been designed in two distinct phases:
- Phase 1: Town planning process, including road closures, and land consolidation.
- Phase 2: Planning, design, and construction of key facility enhancements, including: a new ablution block, hawker stalls, and a designated eating area.
