No interruption expected as they switch Highlands North to permanent power supply

A 150m faulty cable was the cause of a five-day power outage in Highlands North.

City Power assures Highlands North residents that there will be no interruptions during the transition from temporary to permanent power supply.

The Gazette, on July 2, reported that residents on Rosen Street were at their wits end due to a five-day power outage.

City Power’s spokesperson Isaac Mangena confirmed: “On June 28, customers supplied by the Inner-City Service Delivery Centre (SDC), in Highlands North on Rosen Street, specifically between house numbers 37 and 49, experienced power disruptions. On July 1, the test branch team was requested to assist in identifying the fault, which they accurately located.”

Subsequently, an additional fault was discovered, due to a phase issue that resulted in electrical shocks and low voltage.

Mangena added that the team successfully restored customers with a temporary power supply on the same day, at approximately 21:00.

On July 2, the team visited the site to inspect the safety of the temporary supply.

The spokesperson further confirmed that on July 3, the team was engaged in procuring necessary materials to replace the entire 150m faulty cable, which is essential for the permanent restoration of service to the affected customers.

The process was scheduled to commence on July 4, with an estimated restoration time set for July 5.
