Youth leaders and law enforcement join forces in inspiring Paterson Park event

Youth crime fighters, SAPS, and community partners came together in a powerful showcase of unity and purpose.

A vibrant team-building and leadership event, hosted by the Johannesburg Youth Crime Prevention Desk (YCPD), brought together key stakeholders, on July 16, at Paterson Park’s Recreational Multi-Purpose Centre.

With support from the South African Police Service (SAPS), Community Policing Forum (CPF), Lifeline, the Social Development Department, and the BrightSpark Foundation, the gathering focused on connection, accountability, and creativity.

Ice-breakers lit the spark, while LEGO and art activities inspired young leaders to reflect on the power of teamwork and responsibility. SAPS Acting Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Jacobs commended the YCPD’s efforts, calling their work: “Vital to building trust and change.”

“This was more than a workshop,” said YCPD secretary Tamara Grace Barnwell. “It was a milestone moment for youth empowerment and community safety in Johannesburg.”
