Cape Town artist brings water-inspired works to Parkwood
Adele van Heerden’s latest body of work, recently on show at the Blue House in Parkwood, captures the quiet beauty of water in motion. Her art invites us to pause, reflect and feel the ripple of memory beneath the surface.
Cape Town-based artist Adele van Heerden recently showcased her latest body of work at the Blue House in Parkwood, drawing visitors into a world shaped by water, memory and light.
Van Heerden, who works across painting, photography, drawing and video, is known for her abstract approach and unique connection to water. Much of her inspiration comes from time spent swimming in municipal pools and along the coastlines of the Western Cape.

Her work explores the idea of capturing fleeting moments and translating them into colour, texture and form. “Swimming is how I engage with the world,” she explains. “There’s something about the water that holds space for silence, for signals, for those feelings we carry with us.”
The exhibition featured layered pastel and gouache works alongside new experiments with aerosol paint, giving a fresh perspective on light and movement. Visitors described the experience as calming, reflective and deeply immersive.
Van Heerden has exhibited both locally and abroad, with her work held in private and corporate collections including First Rand Bank and the Art Bank of South Africa.
Her time at the Blue House revealed once more how art, much like water, can hold memory, carry emotion and create quiet moments of awe.
