Rotarian celebrates 50 years of service above self

The Rosebank Rotary Club gathered to honour one of its most dedicated members, Tutty Faber, whose 50-year journey with Rotary is a shining example of service, humility, and friendship.

The spirit of camaraderie and celebration filled the Chariots Restaurant at the Wanderers Club on October 31, as members of the Rosebank Rotary Club gathered to honour Rotarian Tutty Faber. The occasion marked an extraordinary milestone – 50 years of dedicated service to Rotary and the community.

Guests raised their glasses in tribute while enjoying a festive lunch of champagne and à la carte dishes. The room buzzed with stories, laughter, and admiration for a man whose life has embodied the Rotary motto: Service above self.

For Faber, looking back on five decades with Rotary brings immense satisfaction. “It is a pleasure to reflect on the service I was able to deliver.” His words carrying both pride and gratitude.

His journey began with a simple inspiration, the reputation of Rotary International. From his very first meeting, he was captivated by the meaningful message being shared, one that would guide his life for the next half-century.

Over the years, he has witnessed Rotary evolve, while staying true to its core purpose. He treasures projects like The Wilds Tea Kiosk, which his original Orange Grove Club built and operated for many years, and he speaks fondly of the friendships he has formed, describing them as solid and enduring.

Faber’s connection to his alma mater, King Edward VII School, is another reflection of his lifelong dedication to service. As both a pupil and later a governor, he found inspiration in the staff’s devotion to their work, which strengthened his own sense of community commitment.

Reflecting on what has sustained him through fifty years, Faber speaks simply: “To serve.”

He credits Rotary with teaching him tolerance and shaping both his personal and professional life through its Four-Way Test.

Rosebank Rotary president Margaret Stafford paid heartfelt tribute to Faber. “Having a proficient and efficient secretary is priceless. Tutty is always willing to go the extra mile and is totally dedicated to his task. His institutional knowledge is amazing, and his smile is infectious. I am privileged to work alongside a man of his calibre.”

Tutty Faber’s fifty years of service is not just a milestone; it’s a legacy of kindness, commitment, and quiet leadership that continues to inspire all who know him.
