Councillors go dark for 48 hours as mayor faces no-confidence showdown

The council meeting that kicked off today was no ordinary sitting. A motion of no confidence in the executive mayor, moved by the very parties that put him in power, headlines a bruising two-day agenda that is expected to run well into both nights.
Strict council rules mean mobile phones must stay silent, and councillors are barred from taking calls once proceedings start. WhatsApp messages might get a fleeting glance during tea or lunch breaks, but don’t hold your breath for quick replies.

Community leaders and constituency officers will still operate where possible, but for direct access to your elected ward representative, you’re looking at a 48-hour blackout.
Normal service, or whatever passes for normal, should resume by Wednesday, once the political dust settles and the mayor either survives or starts packing his office.
