Cross the Divide provides a warm Christmas table for all at a special sit-down meal
A Craighall NPO brought dignity and togetherness to the displaced community this week, as they provided a heartfelt festive meal.
Local non-profit organisation Cross the Divide brought a touch of festive warmth to Parktown North.
On December 9, volunteers set up a special sit-down meal for displaced individuals in the community, but instead of the usual takeaway lunches, the organisation created an outdoor dining space in the parking area of God First Church, where long tables were placed beneath the shade of the trees.
More than 130 people gathered to enjoy a meal served with care, dignity, and a sense of togetherness.

Every Tuesday, Cross the Divide provides lunch to people who are homeless or struggling in the area, but this week’s gathering felt special. Volunteers laid out the tables, welcoming each person to sit and making sure everyone received a hearty meal, along with juice and fruit.

The atmosphere was calm and warm as people sat side by side, talking, relaxing, and enjoying a moment of stillness that is often hard to find on the streets.
One of the attendees, Sipho Slongwana, said: “I am thankful for the meal.”
As the morning wrapped up, many left with full stomachs and a renewed sense of comfort. For a few hours, a simple shared meal under the trees offered relief, dignity, and a reminder that compassion can brighten even the toughest days.
