Craighall residents left in the dark as City Power battles mounting faults
Residents urged to reduce electricity use as City Power battles hundreds of faults and ongoing repairs at the Parkhurst substation.
Residents in Craighall and surrounding areas are being urged to use electricity sparingly as the city’s power system comes under strain, with City Power warning that the network is currently constrained.
The utility said customers should reduce their electricity consumption to help prevent an overload. Inclement weather conditions may also affect response times, with repairs and restorations likely to be delayed in some areas.

City Power’s Service Delivery Centre (SDC) is currently dealing with 514 open calls, 291 of which were logged in the past 24 hours. Among the active outages is one affecting the Parkhurst substation and the Craighall Park distributor.
Technicians have discovered additional faults, and as a result the distributor will remain off until repairs are completed. A test branch team has been requested to assist with the work.
The outage is affecting customers in Craighall and nearby suburbs. City Power confirmed that load-shedding has been suspended until further notice.
Residents are also advised to unplug all appliances during an outage to prevent inrush current when the power supply is restored, which can place further strain on the network and cause additional disruptions.
City Power said it will continue to keep affected customers informed via the Hursthill Outage Update WhatsApp channel and on social media.
Customers experiencing isolated outages or with other electricity-related queries are encouraged to log a call on citypower.mobi or contact the call centre on 011 490 7484.
