Actress Linda Mtoba welcomed guests, while Safta award-winning producer Teddy Geldart chaired the panel discussion around the significance of African storytelling.
Dlathu, with a career that spans over three decades, noted that although such events were necessary in celebrating storytellers, it was also important for the arts to be taken seriously. “We need to be taken seriously and regulated so that we don’t do things such as run around looking for funds. The arts are a serious sector where actors spend 15 hours or more on set for their roles.”

“Our founding father, Julio González, was a simple man who wanted to make a product that would last beyond his time on earth, that people would appreciate, while also inspiring people to follow their hearts. Tonight, we’re celebrating the devotion to the arts in particular, on-screen entertainment. It makes sense for us to be part of such an industry, particularly in Africa, because this is an industry where people do it for the love and passion they have for the industry.”

Luzipho added that the tequila brand did everything with love and was inspired by a fire within, the burning need to create something that will stand the test of time.
“The people in this room represent that; everyone seated here is a ‘Don’ in their own right. We’ve linked it all together because we’re a brand that values people who are dedicated to their craft.”

The panel discussion ended with Dlathu being gifted a cheque from the tequila brand for the veteran’s continuous dedication to her craft and artistic excellence.
