No end in sight for Lyndhurst reinstatement

Johannesburg Roads Agency is in talks with Johannesburg Water regarding the excavation on 2nd Avenue in Lyndhurst; only then will they be able to repair the road.

The repair of the broken and hazardous stormwater drain on 2nd Avenue in Lyndhurst continues to be an issue, after Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) said it would be fixed by January 30.

The publication first wrote about the flooded drain in early January, alerting JRA. At the time is was quickly attended to, and the flooding was stopped, but the resultant hole has been a dangerous eyesore ever since.
JRA regional head of operations, Khaya Gqibitole, on February 24, explained, “JRA is currently addressing administrative matters with Johannesburg Water regarding the reinstatement.

Once the quotation has been finalised and approved, JRA will deploy a team to commence with the reinstatement works.”

This comes after the publication’s media inquiry escalated the issue with JRA.

Ward 81 councillor Joanne Horwitz, on February 10, urged the roads agency to repair the dangerous excavation. “The excavation was created more than a month ago. It is on a busy road, which necessitates its urgency to be repaired.”

The publication reached out to Johannesburg Water, which failed to provide a comment by the time of going to print on March 6.
