Footprints Foundation and FootGolf SA join forces to launch Walk Her Story

The Walk Her Story campaign aims to shift South Africa’s response to gender-based violence by engaging survivors, families, and the broader society.

Footprints Foundation, in partnership with FootGolf South Africa, marked a significant moment.

At the Southern Sun in Rosebank, on April 30, they officially launched the Walk Her Story national campaign.

Walk Her Story is Footprints Foundation’s survivor-centred initiative to battle against gender-based violence (GBV) focused on healing, storytelling, accountability, and coaction. The website can be accessed on this link: walkherstory.co.za

Programme director Nombuso Mashele explained the relevance of the campaign. “Gender-based violence is a crisis in South Africa. It was declared a national crisis.”

Mashele added that the framework and legalities around GBV don’t always work, hence the Walk Her Story campaign is necessary for accountability. For survivors to tell their stories on the platform made available by the campaign.

Chairperson of Footprints Foundation John Malatji explained that for 20 years, men and women of the foundation have been doing the ground work in society, carrying out different campaigns that have eventually culminated to today’s Walk Her Story campaign launch. “What Footprints Foundation has always understood, and what 20 years of being in different communities has taught us, is that GBV is a developmental problem.”
