Glenhazel residents are invited to enjoy their safe and newly upgraded Galliot Park

CAP Green invested R3m into the rehabilitation of Galliot Park in Glenhazel.

Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ), in partnership with the Glenhazel Residents Association and CAP Green, marked the successful adoption and upgrade of Galliot Park on April 21.

This partnership is rooted in a shared commitment to adopt, maintain, and protect Galliot Park as a safe, secure, and welcoming green public open space.

Key upgrades include improved perimeter fencing with controlled access points, the installation of solar-powered lighting in key areas of the park, and enhanced safety measures that support regular community use.

Ward 72 councillor Daniel Schay said he was elated to witness the newly rehabilitated park. “A year ago, when I was approached to sign for the park to be adopted, it was a park filled with sand. Seeing transformation in less than a year from sand to a safe paradise for the community is beautiful.”

Amanda Porter, CAP CEO, said CAP and CAP Green’s purpose was to inspire everyone to appreciate the spaces in which they exist.

“When people love where they live, they take ownership and care. Over time, that care transforms communities. CAP Green exists to reimagine public spaces so that they’re beautiful, vibrant and safer.”

Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo managing director Thanduxolo Mendrew said Galliot Park demonstrated the power of community ownership and partnership.

“When residents, business, and government work together, public spaces are transformed into places of pride, safety, and opportunity. These collaborations allow us to protect green spaces, support healthy childhood development, and strengthen the social fabric of our city.”

The City of Johannesburg’s senior manager in strategic planning and business development, Tumi Mputle, highlighted that the past five months required patience, collaboration and shared commitment.

“From the initial engagements to the signing of the partnership agreement in October 2025 and finally to the completion of the upgrades in February 2026, this project required patience, collaboration and shared commitment.

CAP Green invested a whopping R3m into the upgrade of this park, which is evident in the infrastructure.”
