Winter Warmers project brings comfort to Parkview

Blankets and warm meals offer relief as colder days arrive at St Columba’s Presbyterian Church.

St Columba’s Presbyterian Church in Parkview launched the first part of its Winter Warmers project this morning, bringing both nourishment and comfort to those in need.

Visitors received their usual serving of soup, fruit, and bread, but this time each person was also given a blanket. As winter begins to set in, the simple addition made a meaningful difference.

Smiles spread quickly through the queue when the announcement was made.

There was a sense of relief and quiet excitement as people waited, knowing they would leave, not only with food, but something to keep them warm.

Reverend Melanie Cook said the blanket drive forms part of a Rotary initiative focused on providing good quality blankets at an affordable price. Members of the congregation were encouraged to donate to raise funds to buy the blankets.

The project aims to reach 300 blankets, with about 50 already distributed this morning.

The remaining blankets will be shared through the church office and other outreach efforts in the community.

The morning served as a reminder that even small acts of kindness can bring warmth where it is needed most.
