Rise and Shine Rhythmic Gymnastics Club appeals for funding ahead of Cape Town national competition
Young gymnasts from Summerwood Primary School hall practice sessions are gearing up for the South African Gymnastics Championships, but the club needs financial support to get them there.
Gymnasts took to the floor for stretching, jumping, and dancing at the Summerwood Primary School hall on Wednesday, September 16, during a Rise and Shine Rhythmic Gymnastics Club practice session.
Founder and coach Keabetswe Sesing opened the session by instructing the gymnasts to run and warm up before guiding stretches and rehearsing routines with the children.

Sesing explained that the afternoon practice was important because it was a week away from the team’s national competition in Cape Town.
“For the first time, our gymnasts have qualified to represent us at the national Gymnastics Championships in Cape Town on September 28,” Sesang said. “This is an incredibly proud and exciting achievement for our young gymnasts, especially considering that the club is only two years old.”
She said she started the club to give young girls an opportunity to participate in rhythmic movements, develop their confidence and skills, and compete at a higher level.
The practice session saw children rehearse in groups and individually.

Parent Greta Nangammbi said she was proud to see the club grow and compete in the nationals.
“My daughter joined three years ago when she was 10,” Nangammbi said. “Gymnastics is good because it helps elevate my daughter’s mood, it helps with coordination, and encourages teamwork.”
Getting to nationals, however, comes with significant financial challenges.
The coach explained that she and the families are working to raise funds for flights, accommodation, transport, and meals, but they still require assistance.
“For these girls, going to nationals is about much more than a competition,” Sesang said. “It is an opportunity to see what they are capable of, represent their club and community, and realise that with dedication and support, their dreams are possible.”
