Words of wellness: Do you want to win or be right?

ROSEBANK - Chatting to a few friends, some rich, some poor, I noticed they all had a burning desire to win, to achieve, to be successful.

The richer friends had a plan to fulfil their dreams, the less successful friends had dreams.

I also noticed the more successful friends were quite flexible in terms of how they intended to reach their goals. The end goals were also quite flexible.

They knew they were working toward their goals, but they were a lot more willing to compromise, edit and even scrap the goal completely and redefine it if things strayed too far from the plan.

One of my friends said, “Wealth comes from experience, and the experience one wants is to know when to cut your losses and get out. Once out, you need to study what went wrong so you don’t make that mistake again.”

This is an analytical approach to life, but it is valid if one wants to initiate and maintain success.

My less successful friends tended to try prove their decisions were right, that they could force positive change by proving they were right.

We need to remember that success is not just about business and money. We need to strive for success in the six key areas of our lives, namely family, friends, health, work, finance and spirituality, to attain wellness.

This week’s challenge:

Take a moment to look at these areas of your life, and ask yourself the following questions for each area.

What do you want to achieve in this area of your life?

What is your plan of action?

Is this plan working for you?

Do you need to change it?

What have you learnt from this experience?
