Night markets are essentially places where people hang out after a day of work and are places where couples can go on a date at night or tourists can experience the local nightlife.
For me, experiencing a night market for the first time was an exciting thought and I decided to make this one a group activity as I knew many of my friends would also be experiencing this for the first time.
@1Fox in Ferreirasdorp has gained much popularity hosting the end of the month night market and walking in a little after 6.30pm – it’s clear why this market is the talk of the town.
My friends and I started our night with a drink as we watched as lovers strolled up and down among the aisles with stalls all packed with sweet-smelling delicacies.
I think what’s most surprising about the market is its sheer size, but yet still how crowded it becomes between 7pm and 9pm – nothing too overwhelming though.
When you walk along the aisles looking for the next thing to purchase and every gracious owner gives their sales pitch, one thing is for sure – the thriving number of stalls create an atmosphere of some much-needed competition and this in turn makes this market lush ground for invention.
There weren’t many long queues, but there were a few stops where we’d wait longer when people would spot something cooking with a loud hiss, or when something tasty grabbed the attention of the crowd.
Mixed into this mass of food seekers are more locals than tourists.
Us locals looked more like people just finishing work from around the city, while the tourists were easy to spot as the typical one’s with cameras at the ready and the odd confused look.
The market did not disappoint and we ended up spending so many hours soaking in the atmosphere and trying as much delicious food as we could.
I know the night was a hit as no one could stop raving about it and my social media sites were abuzz with my friends posting non-stop.
This market – during day or night – is fast becoming the centre for localised creations and a big cultural melting pot.
