Parktown Boys racer William Budler revving up South Africa’s motorsport scene

Balancing homework and high-speed racing, 16-year-old William is redefining what it means to be young, focused, and fearless on the track.

William Budler (16) doesn’t just race. He rebuilds, rethinks, and constantly refines his craft.
The Parktown Boys’ learner has grown from a talented junior into one of South Africa’s most disciplined and determined young drivers.

Since his early days on the track, William has transformed from a wide-eyed competitor into a racer with focus and purpose. “Last year, overtaking was my biggest challenge,” he said thoughtfully. “Now, I can confidently go inside and outside on corners. I haven’t dropped below third place in a race all season.”

That consistency is the result of countless hours of preparation and dedication. Between his schoolwork, car maintenance, and fitness training, William’s routine is structured and demanding. “You have to be strong both physically and mentally. I wake up early to train and make sure the car is ready. When your car is prepared, you perform better.”

This season has been one of his most rewarding, with multiple back-to-back wins and a Winter Championship title added to his growing list of achievements. Yet William remains humble, acknowledging that success brings new pressures.

“The more you win, the more people criticise you. My car has been checked many times for being illegal, but every test proves it’s fine. I just focus on racing and improving.”

William credits his family and school community for their support. “My teachers and friends encourage me to keep pushing forward. My dad is everything to me. He guides me and keeps me focused.”

Now preparing to step up into the 1660 class, William knows that tougher challenges lie ahead. “It will be a new level with older drivers and faster cars, but I feel ready.”
