Old Eds race day elevated to a new level

HOUGHTON – The Old Edwardians road race has become part of the four Discovery Vitality series.

The annual Old Edwardians Road Race, which encompasses a 10km and 21km race as well as a 5km Fun Run, has become part of the four Discovery Vitality series. The Old Eds races will be on 6 August starting at 8 am.

This popular race has always attracted a top class field and some 3000 runners have participated. This year with the increased involvement of Discovery and the increase in prize money, the races will be limited to 6000 runners.

“Run through the leafy Houghton suburb with the 10km runners doing one lap and the 21km runners two, it is expected that the interest will be at an all-time high. Plenty of entertainment, as well as food and drinks and a bar, will make this an occasion for the whole family,” said Mike Dunk communications for Old Edwardian Society.

Discovery Vitality will be staging four races of which the Old Eds race is the first and this will be followed by races at The Wanderers, Rockie Road Runners and Randburg Harriers.

Vitality points will be on offer with their members gaining 800 points for the Fun Run, 1100 points for entry into the 10km race and 2000 points for those competing in the 21km race.

Entry fees range from R50 to R140 depending on which race you enter and the prize money will be R5000 for the winners of the mens and ladies open 21km race and R2000 for the winners of the 10km open race.

Entries can be made up until the start of the race at the club and registration and collection of race numbers will be on 4 August from 12 noon to 8 pm and on 5 August from 9 am to 6 pm at the club. On the day of the race, the registration will be from 6 am.
