Pirates win against Raiders in tight game
GREENSIDE – It was the set pieces that helped secure the win for Pirates who remained top of the log after four games.
Pirates Rugby Club welcomed Raiders to Greenside on 29 May for the first-round clash of the Pirates Grand Challenge 2021 Division 1.

Pirates Rugby Club chairman Greg Venter said, “This game has always produced some quality rugby and Saturday was no different.”
The tight game with impressive rugby from both sides saw Pirates win 26–16.
Venter said Pirates flyhalf Divan Nel was on form with the boot, bagging two drop goals and two conversions to help steer Pirates to victory.
Hamer Esterhuizen scored the first try for Pirates after some quick thinking near the line.
“Esterhuizen took a quick tap and rounded the defence to cross over in the corner,” said Venter.

David Cary provided the club with their second try after a great set piece move off the scrum.
“As always, it was a tight game upfront and Raiders kept the pressure on with their usual running style. They simply refused to go away.”
