Roedean Festival showcases rising stars of women’s sport
The sports festival showcased an impressive display of women's sports, featuring top schools, exceptional talent, and unforgettable moments.
The courts and fields of Roedean School (SA) were alive with energy from March 19 to 21 as the Autumn Sports Festival brought together leading schools for three days of high-level competition and inspiring performances.
In squash, St Mary’s School, Waverley claimed top honours, with Julia Midgley named Player of the Festival. Bothlale Nwankwoagu (Roedean) and Thandaza Masuku of Egoli Squash Youth Empowerment earned Most Valued Player recognition.
Hockey saw Die Hoërskool Menlopark take first place, led by standout goalkeeper Chandri Bosman. Lara Melis of St Stithians College was named MVP, while Meeya Ne Hurter of Hoërskool Monument finished as top scorer.

On the netball court, St Dunstan’s College secured victory, ahead of Durban Girls’ College and St Mary’s School, Waverley.
Head of Sports Marcel Lamont summed up the festival’s impact: “The festival is about more than results; it’s where young athletes learn to compete, adapt, and grow. Over the past three days, we’ve witnessed incredible performances, meaningful connections, and the true spirit of school sport.”
More than results, the festival highlighted teamwork, growth and the continued rise of women’s sport, with young athletes proving that the future of the game is in capable hands.
