Tennis open day a success

LINKSFIELD - The young South African Schools' tennis player Byron Werbeloff conducted the first Maccabi tennis tournament at King David Linksfield School's tennis courts on 1 March. All tennis players between the ages of six and 25 were welcome to join the fun and complete on the day.

Werbeloff said, “We had over 45 players in our first Maccabi tournament and it could not have gone better. Everyone was so enthusiastic about the tournament. Many have signed up with our weekly maccabi training on Sunday mornings in order to make the team.”

Werbeloff has obtained his level two in coaching from Tennis South Africa. He is currently the head coach of the University of the Witwaterstrand’s tennis team and is head coach of King David Linksfield School’s team. Werbeloff obtained his undergrad in Human Movement Science from the University of Johannesburg.

Werbeloff has acquired two other coaches in order to assist with the development of his young players. Amthula Markovitz and Grant Mckinney, a professional tennis coach based at the Glen Country Club.
