Police nab armed robber

A sting operation by Norwood police led to the arrest of a suspect wanted for questioning in connection with several armed robberies.

Police spokesperson Nonzwakazi Tsoanyane said police traced the suspect and cornered him at his house. She said, “A search was conducted and police found a gun lighter resembling a 9mm pistol, and a gas refill.”

Tsoanyane said police then instructed the suspect to hand over the gun he had allegedly been using to commit several robberies in and around the Parkview area. “The suspect pointed towards his wardrobe,” she said.

Police searched the wardrobe and recovered the firearm which was linked a number of incidents. The suspect was arrested and charged with possession of an illegal firearm, he appeared at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court and is out on bail said Tsoanyane.
