Parkhurst has its own ale

PARKHURST - Following a tasting vote by restaurant owners, the residents' association and a number of residents, the trendy suburb has its very own ale.

The English bitter 11 Shillings Parkhurst Ale will be available on tap exclusively at a new restaurant on a 4th Avenue block, Craft.

Brains behind the concept, Chris Emmanuel, said that private sale bottles would be launched this month.

At the tasting event, four specially brewed beers were presented to residents. After a brief description of each beer by brewer Carl Nienaber, attendees sampled the brews and voted for the one they felt conveyed the essence of Parkhurst.

The contenders for the title included a Southern English ale, an English bitter, an American pale ale, and an English IPA.

“I want this to be a ‘destination ale’. I’m looking at the possibility of seasonal variations on the beer, as well as introducing a ladies’ ale. It’s an ongoing process, and I think it’ll offer a lot of fun for the community,” said Emmanuel.
