Tango Fire burns up the stage

BRAAMFONTEIN - Joburg Theatre's Mandela stage was transformed into an inferno of passion and dance when Tango Fire - Flames of desire opened on Wednesday night.

The more than capable dancers of the Tango Fire Company of Buenos Aires took the audience on a visual history of the dance through various steps and styles.

Under the direction of choreographic director and dancer German Cornejo, various styles of the Argentine tango were incorporated into the show, among them the Milonga, tango clasico, tango romantico and canyengue/orillero.

Accompanying the dancers was the company’s ensemble, Quarteto Fuego, which featured Matias Feigin on piano, Facundo Benavidez on contrabass, Clemente Carrascal on bandoneon, and Estefania Corsini on violin.

Accomplished vocalist Jesus Hidalgo added yet another dimension to the mesmerising show.

Tango Fire – Flames of Desire is at the Mandela Theatre at the Joburg Theatre complex, Braamfontein, until 23 February.
