What’s on this weekend
JOBURG - The weekend is upon us, and once again, Johannesburg is not short of things to do.
From shopping to arts, there’s bound to be something to keep everyone entertained.
On Saturday, enjoy a spot of shopping at either the Jozi Food Market in Greenside or at Braamfontein’s trendy Neighbourgoods Market.
Both markets offer a wide range of artisinal foods and other desirable goods.
Jono Wood and Nickolaus Bauer will lead a walkabout of Wood’s photographic exhibition The Park at Arts on Main’s Rubixcube Gallery, Maboneng Precinct, at 10am.
Artist Gabrielle le Roux will host an artist talkabout, aimed at adults, of her exhibitions Proudly African and Transgender, and Proudly Trans in Turkey, which form part of the joint exhibition Queer and Trans Art-iculations at Wits Art Museum, Braamfontein, at 12pm.
Newtown’s Mary Fitzgerald Square will be transformed into an electronic music wonderland from 4pm by acts including Major Lazer, Dillon Francis, Flosstradamus, and Das Kapital at the Mad Decent Block Party.
If hip-hop or rap is more your scene, US star Kendrick Lamar will perform a concert at Joburg Stadium, Doornfontein, from 6pm.
On Sunday, shopaholics can get their spending fix at either Rosebank Mall’s Finders Keepers Market or at Maboneng Precinct’s Market on Main.
For a relaxed Sunday afternoon party vibe, Maboneng Precinct’s Living Room presents DJs The Chef, Baba Ganoush and Toby2Shoes at Amazonia, from 2pm.
