The app that brings out the animal lover in you
JOBURG - Local Parktown North resident, Samir Randera-Rees, has decided to use technology in aid of animal conservation and has started his own wildlife app called Whispers of the Wild.
Whether you consider yourself an amateur game ranger, or if you struggle to distinguish a lion roar from the grumble in your tummy, Whispers of the Wild has been developed with you in mind. The app is an innovative new mobile application that empowers anyone to enjoy nature’s stories, providing an audio and visual guide to African animals, as well as anyone planning an African safari. Whispers of the Wild, with its audio playback, enables users to learn about native animals without having to take their eyes off them.
The informative audio playback, combined with an amazing image library, animal sounds and an interactive game, provides content for over 50 African mammals.
The app can be used anywhere across southern and east Africa, from the Kruger National Park to the Serengeti, the Okavango Delta to the Ngorongoro Crater and offers the user the opportunity to learn while watching the animals.
Randera-Rees worked as a game ranger and studied a Masters in Conservation Ecology in Europe. He returned to the Kruger Park to complete his thesis in carnivore interactions. Ever since then, he’s been searching for ways to share his love for the continent’s wildlife with the broader population.
The app even provides an interactive game to challenge friends, family or the kids to see who the best animal spotters are. Whispers of the Wild also integrates with social media, enabling you to share your wildlife experiences and interact with the Whispers of the Wild community on Facebook and Twitter.
