Gauteng Opera hosts annual Christmas concert

JOBURG - Gauteng Opera, which is now based in the heart of Johannesburg, will once again reach out to the less fortunate.

It has become a tradition for Gauteng Opera to host their annual Christmas concerts to acquire donations in the form of gifts and funds for the needy children in homes and orphanages.

This year, there will be only one concert and it will take place at the Linder Auditorium in Parkhurst on 27 November.

The company’s new administrative intern, Bongani ‘Drama’ Nomcweya explained the reason why they would only hold one concert in Joburg this year. “Well, Gauteng Opera is now based in Johannesburg and, of course, our concerts can only take place based on funding and we only have one main sponsor this year,” he said.

“Also, we have staged three of our opera’s at the Soweto Theatre this year, so we’re giving back to the children in the area – the children at Orlando Children’s Home in Soweto.”

This special concert is perfect for the entire family to enjoy and the company promises that it will awaken the Christmas spirit of peace and harmony in everyone.

The concert will highlight the beautiful solo voices of Gauteng Opera and a special Choral Ensemble, as well as a special accompaniment from well-known accompaniment expert, Paul Ferreira.

As usual, all patrons who wish to attend the Christmas opera extravaganza are encouraged to bring along a gift valued at between R100 and R200 for children between the ages of one and 18.

Christmas is a time for giving and Gauteng Opera wants the public to give to those in need and they promise to give you a show you’ll never forget.
