A peachy show

JOHANNESBURG – You’d better have your appetite about you as the National Children’s Theatre will be showing Roald Dahl’s classic James and the Giant Peach until 23 December.

James and the Giant Peach will delight audiences of all ages and tells the story of James, a young orphan boy who is forced to live with his two monstrous aunts. One day he meets an old man who gives him a bag that contains the strongest magic in the world, which he then accidently spills onto a peach tree in the garden.

A peach on the tree grows to incredible proportions and as he steps into the juicy fruit, he meets five bugs that have become larger than life. What ensues is an incredible journey that takes the gang to the cliffs of Dover and across the Atlantic ocean all the way to New York, aka the Big Apple.

The classic tale has been adapted for the stage by David Wood and directed by Francois Theron to create a show with an incredible, vibrant cast and set. The cast includes a number of talented local children from the National Children’s Theatre workshops.

James and the Giant Peach will be showing at the National Children’s Theatre, 3 Junction Avenue, Parktown until 23 December at 10.30am and 2.30pm.
