Voices of Joburg: Enthused about the City
BRAAMFONTEIN – “I know you. My friend was in your paper!” was Monique Langedyk’s reaction when asked if City Buzz could have a chat with her.
This cheerful young woman was referring to the Voices of Joburg article that featured her friend, Miriam Van Zyl and she was only too happy to speak with the team.
When asked where she likes to hang out in the City of Gold, Langedyk had a list. “The Sheds @1 Fox and Market on Main are my favourite places. Fox isn’t too busy and has loads of space to sit, which is nice. Any really cool music acts are a must, like the Little Dragon concert recently in Carfax – epic!”
When she’s not doing accounts for the online and website design company, Net Age, she’s indulging in tasty lunches and fun drinks with her ‘besties’ Emma Wilson, Stuart Cameron, Kelly Ryan and of course, Miriam.
“I work all day, sleep all night!” She laughed, adding that there’s always time for a little fun inbetween.
The topic of the City’s rejuvenation efforts came up and Langedyk mentioned that the streets still needed a bit of work. “Perhaps more involvement from the community to clean up and spruce up the City – but overall Jozi is filled with great people, why not showcase that? I also think there need to be more projects like the Maboneng Precinct and Newtown.”
Overall, she was enthusiastic about the clean-up efforts taking place across the City. “I think it’s great! It’s about time that we revive Jozi, it’s a City of Gold after all. It makes it a lot less scary to be in. If you ask me, there’s still a lot of undiscovered places, so exciting times are ahead, exciting times!” She gushed.
