Outrageous political comedy Shotgun Wedding heads to Killarney Cinecentre for one night only

Yugan Naidoo’s latest satire, Shotgun Wedding, brings laughter and political parody to Killarney Cinecentre on November 1.

SA’s most outrageous wedding comedy lands in Johannesburg for one night only

The irrepressible Yugan Naidoo is set to return to the stage with his latest satirical comedy, Shotgun Wedding, which will be performed live at Killarney Cinecentre, Killarney Mall, on November 1, at 20:00

The production promises to be one of the most unconventional theatrical events of the year, combining political parody, music, and dance with Naidoo’s trademark wit.

Shotgun Wedding draws its inspiration from the recent formation of South Africa’s Government of National Unity (GNU), using the concept of an arranged marriage as a humorous metaphor for the country’s new political alliances.

Naidoo has teamed up once again with fellow theatre legend Vivian Moodley, with whom he last worked on the hit stage production Too Muckin Fuch. The pair are joined by accomplished musician Ravi Subramoney and comedian and impersonator Patrick Samuels. Together, they deliver a sharp, fast-paced and highly entertaining performance that blends satire, storytelling, and live music.

“I haven’t had this much fun ‘marrying’ the idea of an arranged marriage with the actual formation of the GNU,” says Naidoo. “You must believe there’s something more going on here, and this is our funny take on it.”

Shotgun Wedding is a family-friendly show rated PG08, making it suitable for audiences of all ages. It aims to entertain while encouraging reflection on South Africa’s political climate, celebrating the power of laughter to bring people together.

The production is expected to draw a full house, with theatre lovers eager to see Naidoo’s return to live performance. As one of the few full-scale stage comedies exploring the GNU through satire, Shotgun Wedding offers a rare mix of humour, insight, and social commentary.
