Wanderers Rugby Club defeats University of Johannesburg Rugby Club in an intense game

In a difficult gamer of strategy and skill, Wanderers Rugby Club managed to come out on top of UJ Rugby Club after their game on May 30.

Wanderers Rugby Club came out on top against University of Johannesburg (UJ) Rugby Club 34–33 on May 30 at Wanderers Stadium’s field.


Fans for both teams filled the stands and the rooftop, cheering the players on while the game took different turns.

The intense and nail-biting game was dominated by the UJ rugby players, until the Wanderers players caught up, matched their speed, and eventually won.

UJ Rugby Club’s captain, and the sixth flank player, Lesedi Masemola commended his team’s performance. “The team did well in terms of creating opportunities. I think the next step we need to take, as a team, is executing on those opportunities.”

Masemola added that had the team executed on the opportunities they missed, they would have found themselves in a more favourable position.

Basanda Mabaso, Wanderers Rugby Club captain, admitted that the game was not an easy one. “It was a tough game, but in the end, I felt like we dominated the day. We had a great game. We had a lot of soft moments, which resulted in the other team scoring tries easily.”


Mabaso concluded that he was proud of the team’s overall performance.
