Robbers sentenced to 12 years

ATHOL - Two criminals aged 18 and 28 confessed to charges of robbery in Athol.

The two appeared in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court and were sentenced to 12 years in prison each.

A 68-year-old man was robbed and threatened with a knife by the two men at his home.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for the Bramley police said the robbery took place at 3am.

“The two robbers surprised the man,” explained Maphakela. “They told him not to make a noise and pointed a knife at him.”

He said the men loaded appliances from the residence into a vehicle and left.

The Bramley police were alerted about the incident and found the robbers in Alexandra.

Maphakela said, “The police gave chase and the driver of the vehicle lost control and hit the pavement.”

He said the police arrested the two robbers and recovered the stolen property. The men were detained at the Bramley Police Station and charged with house robbery, possession of stolen goods and a stolen vehicle.
