Pilates at Field and Study Park in Parkmore

This passion for Pilates allowed them to welcome people of all ages, strengts and experience levels to the park.

Take out your mats and connect with your body as these Parkmore instructors host outdoor Pilates classes.

Pure Kinetics instructors Megan Grobler and Cayley Blaker took the opportunity that the lockdown regulations presented during Level 1, hosting their very own ‘Pilates in the Park’ at the Field and Study Park in Parkmore.

According to Grobler, this was a welcomed change for the instructors themselves as well as the community at large because during the more strict levels of lockdown the duo held classes via Zoom. “The Pilates in the Park has been amazing because people are really just tired of looking into their screens, being in their homes and being disconnected,” she said.

“We really underestimated how powerful it really was to be outside before the lockdown – it has such a powerful mental health affect. It really just tried to incorporate a little bit of mindfulness which we believe people really need this year.”

The two both began their journey in Pilates almost eight years ago, Grobler at the University of Pretoria and Blaker at the University of Stellenbosch. “I think we both learnt that Pilates in itself is quite a journey – every person, every case and every goal is different and unique. That sort of brain-to-body connection powerful and unmatched,” said Blaker.

This passion for Pilates allowed them to welcome people of all ages, strengts and experience levels to the park on a Saturday morning for a 45-minutes class. “It is very simple, you just bring your mat and we teach you how to intelligently move your body,” said Grobler.

She continues to encourage the community to get involved and join the class at the park. “We have been given our bodies and the better you know it, the better quality of life that you are going to have. Spend time in your body doing something really helpful and mindful,” Grobler concluded.
