Communities come together for good
WENDYWOOD – The Chinese Association Women’s Federation and Wendywood and Morningside Manor Can recently facilitated the handing over of more than 100 winter-warmer packs.
The Wendywood and Morningside Manor Community Action Network (Can) continues to lend a helping handing to the communities around it.
Together with the Chinese Association Women’s Federation, the Can was recently able to facilitate the handing over of more than100 winter-warmer packs to the Hearts of Hope, Banakekeleni, Thuthuzela and Legae La Alex orphanages in Alexandra and Wendywood.
The packs contained handmade blankets, beanies, scarves, ear muffs and jerseys made by members of the association.
According to Sharon Lefkowitz, the Wendywood and Morningside Manor Can was happy that it was still able to help the community and contribute to various organisations during this time of uncertainty.
“Because of the unrest, we weren’t able to do our normal outreach at Innisfree Park for Mandela Day but to see the community come together like this was amazing.”
Members of the Can also made various donations throughout the week of July 12. Wendy Tomaselli, Deena Caplin and Stephanie Urdang donated over 100 beanies to the informal community living at Innisfree Park.
Jeminah Leah knitted and donated blankets to Legae La Alex while Sharon Lefkowitz donated over 40 sandwich-packs to the children at Hearts of Hope.
