Rotary Morningside steps up this winter
MORNINGSIDE – The Rotary Club of Morningside would like to extend a massive thank you to the community for its active support and kindness.
The Rotary Club of Morningside continues to lend a helping hand to the communities in need.
The Catalyst Group, a group of relatively new members to the Rotary club, have fully embraced this year’s Rotary motto,Serve to Change Lives, this winter through their Winter Warmers campaign.
Led by Rotarian Jack Chen, the team has been working hard to collect significant donations of clothing, blankets and food items from shoppers at the Morningside Shopping Centre to donate to those in need. Soul Food Africa and Rotary Collective Clubs Blanket Drive in Gauteng also came on board to help the club reach more people.
According to the club’s Kristi Hansen, the aim of the collection drive was to help the surrounding communities in need who are going through a difficult winter and feeling the impact of the pandemic.
On July 19, just before the record cold front kicked in, a consignment with almost 200 blankets came in. The blankets were distributed to displaced people in Krugersdorp while blankets and food boxes went to residents living in the informal settlements of Diepsloot and Munsieville.
“[On] Monday, July 26, a bakkie-load of donated clothes that had been collected from the Morningside Shopping Centre by way of the drop-off box outside the Pick n Pay, was also delivered to two homeless shelters in Krugersdorp – Grace Centre Family Shelter and Tower of Light Men’s Shelter.”
