Seven suspects caught in the act
MARLBORO – The remainder of the suspects were caught in a Hyundai H1 which had been reported hijacked in Benoni.
Seven male suspects were arrested during an attempt to rob a cash guard who was transporting money to a retailer on October 12.
Police officers from numerous departments including the National Crime Intelligence Unit and the SAPS Highway Patrol were tipped off about the robbery that was going to occur on the corner of North Way and Marlboro Drive.
Two of the seven suspects were stopped by law enforcement officers who discovered that the vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, had a false number plate. The remainder of the suspects were caught in a Hyundai H1 which had been reported hijacked in Benoni.
The seven suspects, who range from 29 to 42 years, will appear in court to face charges such as possession of two unlicensed firearms and ammunition, possession of a stolen vehicle and unlawful and intentional conspiracy to commit a crime.
