Local golfer is living the dream

MORNINGSIDE – The pro-golfer won the World Amateur Golfers Championship in South Africa in 2006, the Investec Order of Merit in 2019 and the Spain Aramco Teams Series last year.

Local resident Stacy Bregman continues to live out her dream of being a professional golfer.

Bregman, who has been playing professional golf for over 15 years, is set to take part in this year’s Sunshine Ladies Tour. She discovered her love for the game at the age of 12 along with her first real coach, Neville Sundelson.

According to the Morningside resident, it has been a journey filled with many ups and downs. “It’s such a hard but rewarding sport and knowing that you can’t win every week just shows how tough it is.”

Being a female in a male-dominated sport has also been a challenge. Bregman highlighted that one of the main challenges that women in golf face is that they do not get enough recognition in the media.

“[There is] also the pay gap between men and ladies [which] is huge. We [ladies] have to be way more consistent every week to make a decent living.”

Over the years, Bregman has, however, continued to work hard, claiming a number of victories throughout her career.

The pro-golfer won the World Amateur Golfers Championship in South Africa in 2006, the Investec Order of Merit in 2019 and the Spain Aramco Teams Series last year.

She made the all-important putt on the last hole to get her team into a play-off, which ultimately lead the team to victory.

Bregman hopes to encourage interested young girls in the community with a love for golf to explore their passion for the game.

“Have lots of patience, persistence and perseverance in this game. It’s a long road to the top if you want to do this as a living but so much fun and heartache along the way which is so worth it!”
